At Ignite we’re privileged to work in such a creative and diverse environment with some incredible client partners. Back in January 2016 we launched ‘Ignite Nights’ to bring our ‘community’ together in a fun and informal setting. The September event starred award-winning cocktails as well as an award-winning powerhouse of film, theatre and television; Moira Buffini.

We kicked the evening off with the welcome cocktail ‘El Burro Catalan’; the winner of the Tales of the Cocktail competition in New Orleans. A take on the classic Moscow Mule with Absolut Elyx, Cigarrera Manzanilla Sherry, pressed cranberry, lemon and ginger beer, the cocktail was paired with a goat’s cheese and cranberry jelly on crostini – yum!

Our billed guest speaker, Paul Webster, was unfortunately called away to close an urgent deal in Canada but we were lucky enough to have celebrated playwright Moira Buffini step in. By no means our second choice, (we had Moira scheduled in for the next Ignite Night – we just got her a little sooner!) we entered into an informal Q&A session with this celebrated icon of theatre, film and television.

Fresh from the set of ITV’s 8 part series Harlots, which she is co-creator of and writer for (due for release in Spring 2017), Moira talked enthusiastically about her work and her passion for storytelling. From screenplays such as Jane Eyre and Tamara Drewe to the hugely successful musical wonder.land at the National Theatre, Moira’s fearlessness to embrace new medium keeps her joy for her art alive.

One of the key take-aways of the session was that Moira writes for herself – what interests her? What would she want to watch? How does it make her feel?

Nowadays we get too tied up in the demographic – who is our target audience? The answer is – we are! We should be creating content that interests us; what evokes emotion in us, what we want to see. If we want to see it then other people will too.

“Let’s watch some branded content” said no one, ever! Forget the jargon and focus on the story.

Recently Ignite has taken a big step towards our focus on video in the digital mix. On the evening we announced that we are officially partnering with award-winning video production company A Taste Of Space, who we’re working with on some current projects for Smith & Wollensky and Café Rouge – to find out more, watch this space (pun intended)!

We were honoured to have Moira join us for the evening to share her anecdotes and advice, we were left feeling ignited and inspired.
