Heading to Wimbledon this year? There is never an excuse for a greasy and all-too-often foul tasting hot dog or burger from a van parked on the walk to the grounds – and especially not in Wimbledon which has such an abundance of fantastic places to eat. Born and raised in SW19, I know my way around these parts so here are my top picks for places to eat around the All England Lawn Tennis Club:

1 – Franco Manca – for something a bit more casual, the street kings of sourdough pizza are on the way to the tennis courts from Southfields station. Having expanded rapidly from their market roots, they now have several locations around London – no bookings, so it’s first come first served (pun intended).

2 – Dip & Flip – not recommended if you’re wearing Wimbledon whites, but these guys know how to make a great burger. Following the success of their Battersea restaurant, they’ve opened a new venue on The Broadway in Wimbledon. You have been warned – it will be messy.

3 – Hot Pink Grill – a healthy departure from the abundance of burger restaurants in London – HPG, as the name suggests, emphasises the healthy cooking technique, so you can enjoy a burger without the guilt.

4 – The White Onion – heading up the hill to the delights of Wimbledon Village, The White Onion is a new addition to the area with a contemporary French menu – it will be busy during the fortnight, so make sure to reserve!

5 – The Rose and Crown – the ‘local’ for all the staff at the Championships, the hotel’s car park is transformed into an outdoor bar selling jugs of Pimm’s at record speed. With a decent pub menu and projector screens showing all of the matches, it’s a great casual option with a buzzing atmosphere.

6 – Cousins Fish Shop and Restaurant – A fairly new addition to the Broadway in Wimbledon, this place will be surely be a huge hit with the tourists visiting The Championships – with a convenient take-away counter, a great option for a quick meal as you walk to the courts or join the never-ending queue for tickets!

Fish

7 – Bluebird – finally, not actually in Wimbledon but with al fresco dining from the modern European menu and TVs showing all of the action, this famous destination in the heart of Chelsea will be in high demand during the Wimbledon fortnight – so booking is advised! Try the seared tuna tacos – an absolute winner.
